Open to the Sky by Susanna Fritscher

When I just entered the exhibition “ Fragilities” the work of Susanna Fritscher really impressed me with its simplicity and freshness. When you see it you automatically feel excited - by its size, ability to feel the space without taking much of it, by the way it transforms light and the room.

It makes you feel first, without you thinking much of it. In a way that reminds me of works of impressionist movement. Impressionists would show you the feeling of things they see, Susanna Fisher makes you have a different impression of the space you are in - same as impressionist her work based on light and movement, it is fragile, soft and very humane to the viewer. It doesn't try to teach you a lesson, criticize your morals, or push you over the limit.

This is what I wrote, while sitting close to work and observing it  “ This work by Susanna Fristecher fascinates me . Most of all because of its simplicity and of it not having any context surrounding it. It is just ( rain/ light/ snow) wherever you feel and the sky.
Maybe because I study art now, maybe because nowadays  we are overwhelmed with context and information. I learned to really appreciate silent and simple works like that, which takes us away from society, civilization, psychology analysis, metaverses, conflicts, politics and all that. And just bring us closer to nothingness, simplicity, something pure- like rain and sky and not more than that. “

Open to the sky - is an installation work, consisting of the long transparent strings coming from the ceiling and filling the space of the room. In her works Fritscher uses this motive - changing our perception of the space a lot. In that case the building of the Museum itself becomes an active part of the installation.

This softness, quietness and restraint - is nothing like what I used to do with my art, so I have a lot to learn from it.
